Recently, it was my extreme pleasure to visit and be given a tour of The Halifax Lake House. As someone who has hosted and performed in a variety of amazing venues I was thrilled at what I saw. Nova Scotia’s beautiful natural splendour surrounding a modern, artistically-appointed elegant and elaborately laid out and constructed home. It offers spaces and places, nooks and vistas, gathering rooms for socializing and snugs for more intimate conversation. While outside the estate offers barbecue and balconies, outside performance space that extends from inside to the forest and down to the amazingly secluded lake. This is all capped off by my lovely welcoming hosts whose home it is and whose venue will become known as a place of true Nova Scotia warmth, hospitality and elegance at it’s absolute finest.

As a professional corporate trainer developing countless learning events nationwide, I have to say The Halifax Lake House event I attended was a 5-star experience that transcended all previous experiences.  During a global pandemic our hosts successfully afforded me the opportunity to exhale, then inhale an aroma of what our new normal can be – inclusive, comfortable, safe, and unguarded.  While networking and team building we got to enjoy this breathtaking property while observing the meticulous adherence to event gathering protocols.  Every seat is the best seat in the house, whether inside looking out a wall of windows overlooking the sparkling lake, or outside lounging in exquisite comfort on the large sprawling upper or lower patios. Wandering along the boardwalk to the lakefront to relax under the cabana on the dock, or cozying up in front of the bonfire under the stars for some music, friendly conversation and laughter, the possibilities and opportunities to exhale are endless.

It was two weeks before Christmas, and our 150-person, international event was to start on January 6th.  We needed help, and fast!  A phone call to Marina, followed by a 1-hour meeting to bring her up to speed, following which Marina took control of hotel logistics including food and beverage, audio-visual, room set ups; graphic design and printing of program, signage, name badges, etc.; transportation for off the site event; registration and on-site support; and even tracking down blue panty hose and face paint at the last minute – suffice it to say, Marina will do anything to ensure a successful event!  We have hired Velocity to plan our November event – this time we’re happy to have her right out of the gate!

Dalhousie, Saint Mary’s & Mount Saint Vincent Universities jointly contracted Velocity as our professional conference management team and they were nothing short of outstanding in ensuring our conference list of activities were spectacular and completed on time and on budget, and exceeded our expectations!  Every detail that Velocity touched was with incredible expertise. Our conference team quickly found out that if Marina or Mike were working on any aspect, we didn’t have to touch this area.  They attended multiple meetings and assisted in many activities above and beyond what was expected of them to ensure our CUBA Conference was a huge success. Their experience and expertise in event management is an invaluable investment in a successful event.  If we had one regret, it is that we didn’t hire Velocity to run absolutely every aspect of our conference!
